Amir M. Moezzi MSc, OD (Clinical Scientist)

Amir's professional experience is exceptionally diverse and includes optometry practice, teaching, industrial research and management as well as academic research. After obtaining a BSc in optometry from Iran in 1988, he practised optometry, and worked as an instructor in the ophthalmic optics labs and binocular vision courses at the optometry school in Tehran, Iran. Amir joined the ophthalmic optical industry in 1991 and received extensive training in modern technology for ophthalmic lens processing at LOH Germany. During the period of 1991-1993 he successfully worked as the project manager to establish Azar Lens company, the first large-scale production plant for ophthalmic lens processing in Iran. This project was completed in 1993, and Amir successfully managed this factory as technical and manufacturing manager before immigrating to Canada in 1997. From 1995-1996 he was a committee member of the Iranian national standard institute, preparing national standards for ophthalmic lenses as well as traffic lights. These national standards were successfully completed in 1996.

In 1999 Amir was granted admission to the graduate studies program in the field of contact lens research under the supervision of Professor Desmond Fonn at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo, working as a teaching assistant in the ophthalmic optics labs. Amir's research project on bifocal contact lenses and eye movements won the Daytech Manufacturing Ltd. prize for the best graduate seminar for the 2000-2001 academic year. In February 2002 he successfully completed his master's project measuring corneal swelling induced by soft and hard contact lenses with Orbscan™II Corneal Topography system.

After a year away from the School, Amir rejoined the CCLR team as a Research Associate in 2003.
